Organic Perlite 1 Qt - garden supply, potting soil amendment

Regular price $12.00 Sale

Perlite is a form of amorphous volcanic glass (although it’s often confused by new gardeners as being some lightweight material like styrofoam) used to aerate potting and gardening soil to use on plants that need well-draining soil. f you looked at a piece of horticultural perlite under a microscope, you would see that it’s quite porous. The cavities in perlite help store nutrients and some moisture that the plant might need, but drain excess water away.

It is non-toxic, organic, clean, disease-free, and extremely lightweight and easy to work with.

For indoor use on potted houseplants, mix 2 parts of regular potting soil with 1 part of perlite.

Perlite is also great for rooting cuttings and creates a much stronger root formation than those grown in water alone. Take your cuttings and place them in a Ziploc bag of moistened perlite, about one-third full of perlite. Put the cut ends of the cuttings up to the node into the perlite and then fill the bag with air and seal it. Put the air-filled bag in indirect sunlight and check it after two or three weeks for root formation. The cuttings can be planted when the roots are ½ to 1 inch long.

Safe to use on all of Pretty in Green's houseplants.
